We are deeply saddened to inform our supporters that our founder and president, Joey Harper, passed away at Doylestown Hospital at the age of 19. Joey was admitted on December 26 with severe abdominal pain and passed away on January 2, 2010 of sepsis and respiratory failure. He was laid to rest on January 6, 2010 at St. John Neumann Cemetery. As Joey's family and friends, the board members have promised to keep his legacy alive through the foundation, continuing to help as many people and families as possible to live the way Joey thought that everyone deserved. We appreciate everyone's support, thoughts and prayers through this difficult time, and we are grateful for the outpouring of support and donations to keep Joey's dream alive.
About Us: The Wheeled Scotsman Foundation was founded by Joseph John Harper in 2006. He is a nineteen year old who was diagnosed with Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy when he was five years old and has been in a wheelchair since he was eight. As Joey’s condition progressed, he needed more and more help getting around the house and his daily life. As Joey’s family learned, there is only so much that most insurance companies would provide on a “necessary” basis. But with help from people in his community, Joey’s needs were met through donations.
